We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director – Development.
Position Summary: The Director of Development working with the Senior Director for Major Gifts and the Associate Director of Development shall develop and implement strategies to attract funding for the Medical Centers work from individual donors and prospects at the major gifts level (six through seven-figure gifts). The Director of Development also helps to identify opportunities for unrestricted support for the Medical Center and Campaign initiatives.
Usage of Advance donor database, keeping all Advance data updated and complete, and knowledge of Fundraising Guidelines applicable to position duties.
Major Donors – Works with the chair, division directors, physicians and administrators of the department(s) to identify, cultivate, solicit, close gifts and steward donors and prospects with wealth capacity to make six through seven figure commitments to the Medical Center.
Major Donors – Participates in one-on-one cultivations and solicitations regarding gift opportunities.
Major Donors – Prepares letters of inquiry and proposals to prospects and donors on behalf of Medical Center chairs and faculty members.
Major Donors – Researches and writes briefings to prepare Medical Center officers (Dean, Vice Dean, Sr. Vice President, Department Chair, and Division Directors) to ensure effective meetings with major donors.
Major Donors – Works collaboratively with the Corporate and Foundation Officers and Planned Giving to secure organizational support for the department(s).
Major Donors – Prepares regular donor reports as required and appropriate gifts with Departments and Division administrators and related faculty members.
Stewardship and Cultivation – Works closely with physicians, Medical Center leadership and potential advisory board to develop event opportunities for cultivating and stewarding major donors and identifying new prospects.
Prospecting and Development Activity Tracking/Reporting – Coordinates prospect research with the Prospect Research team to identify new major donor prospects for gift team. Works with team Coordinator to do preliminary prospect research to determine initial capacity and interest.
Prospecting and Development Activity Tracking/Reporting – Reviews listings of current donors from the database who have previously given to the areas of responsibility and develop individual strategies to solicit them for new gifts.
Prospecting and Development Activity Tracking/Reporting – Documents all development activity related to gift solicitations and donor and prospect stewardship and general information in the donor/prospect database.
Staffing – Works collaboratively with members of Principal and Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Special Events, Strategy and Foundation Relations, Faculty Direct Response, Stewardship, Advancement Services and Operations teams to meet program and Departmental objectives and goals.
Other special projects, as assigned.
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree plus 8+ years of fundraising experience.
Successful track record in Development and Major Gifts with a history of soliciting six and seven figure gifts.
Experience with board development and management.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Ability to meet deadlines and fundraising goals.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
High level of energy, initiative, and creativity.
Self-motivated, outgoing and results oriented.
Knowledge of internet, e-mail and software applications, including MS Word and Excel.
Development database experience.
Work experience at an academic medical center is highly preferred.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
