Oregon State University seeks a visionary, progressive and collaborative leader to serve as its next dean of the College of Pharmacy. After more than seven years of overseeing the College’s substantial growth in faculty and external funding, Dr. Mark Zabriskie announced he will be stepping down from his role as dean in the summer of 2018. This is an extraordinary opportunity for the next dean to build upon a strong foundation and leverage key partnerships to further advance pharmacy education and pharmaceutical research aimed at directly impacting the health of the communities in Oregon and beyond.
The Oregon State University College of Pharmacy is one of the nation’s oldest, having trained pharmacists for Oregon and beyond since 1898. Today, its faculty, students and staff are leading the way in pharmacy education, practice and research. The College is anchored at the main campus in Corvallis and maintains a substantial presence on site with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland. The Pharm.D. program is ranked in the top third of the nation’s programs and its Ph.D. program produces top scientists with excellent success in moving into postdoctoral positions at top-ranked universities or jobs with major pharmaceutical companies. The College received $5.8 million in extramural research funding in fiscal year 2016, and has built strong collaborations for science across the university as well as with OHSU.
As one of only two universities in the nation designated as a land, sea, space and sun grant, Oregon State serves Oregon and the world by working on today’s most pressing issues. Its more than 31,000 students come from across the globe, and the university’s programs operate in every Oregon county. Oregon State receives more research funding than all of the state’s comprehensive public universities combined. At its campuses in Corvallis and Bend, marine research center in Newport and award-winning Ecampus, Oregon State excels at shaping today’s students into tomorrow’s leaders.
The next dean will be charged with furthering the growth of the College through setting the strategic vision for educating the next generation of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists, continued expansion of research and building upon vital partnerships, including with OHSU. Oregon State seeks a candidate with an outstanding track record of academic accomplishment in administrative, scholarly, educational and/or clinical endeavors. The successful candidate will show a clear track record of collaboration and innovation, and be passionate about advancing the health of the community. A Pharm.D., Ph.D., or terminal degree related to the mission of the College is required, as is the commitment to a visible presence in both Portland and Corvallis, and throughout the state.
