The VISN 16 GRECC in Little Rock, Arkansas is recruiting for the position of Associate Director for Research. This position is part of the key leadership of the GRECC and is responsible for leading and providing strategic direction for GRECC research. Other responsibilities of this position include: 1) mentoring junior investigators; 2) serving on leadership groups; and, 3) developing and strengthening research collaborations. Up to 85% of time is protected to pursue these objectives.
The position is open to experienced clinical investigators at the doctoral level including PhD scientists, physicians, nurses, and clinical psychologists. Candidates should be qualified for appointment at the Associate to Professor Level at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and have strong clinical research credentials (including publications and an established record of obtaining Federal research grants). The ideal candidate possesses good leadership and communication skills and has an established track record in one of the research focus areas of the GRECC, which include: (a) the biological outcomes of normal aging and disease as manifest in skeletal muscle, the central nervous system and cardiovascular system; (b) exercise, nutrition, and rehabilitation; (c) treatment of mental health and behavior problems in dementia; and, (d) determining how to engage Veterans in advance care planning. Preference will be given to candidates with specific training, interest, and expertise in the areas of functional rehabilitation, exercise and/or muscle metabolism and investigating the causes and determining optimal interventions to prevent or ameliorate muscle weakness and general disability in older adults.
The VISN 16 GRECC has state-of-the art body composition, metabolism, gait and balance, and brain stimulation labs. The GRECC is matched by a similar array of research programs at UAMS through the Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatrics.
