Nominations are being sought for Division Director for Infectious Diseases and International Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School. The University of Minnesota Medical School (the “Medical School”) is pleased to announce a national search for a new Infectious Diseases and International Medicine (IDIM) Division Director. The Medical School is a highly prestigious, widely respected, and academically productive center for the education and training of physicians, development of investigative scientists and researchers, graduate and undergraduate medical education programs, basic and translational research initiatives, and overall clinical excellence.
The Medical School is seeking an innovative and collaborative academic physician-scholar to serve as the new Division Director. The Division has a long tradition of academic and clinical excellence, with 26 University-based faculty, 12 fellows, a staff of 39 employees, and $2.4 million in clinical revenue and $5.2 million in grant direct and University non-sponsored revenue of $3.8 million.
The IDIM Division Director will be expected to lead and promote academic and IDIM research initiatives and education throughout and beyond the Medical School, collaborating with investigators in all of the schools of the Academic Health Center, including the basic sciences and education. It is anticipated that these interrelated and complementary missions and roles will position the successful candidate effectively at the University of Minnesota and nationally, as well as internationally, with respect to stature and resources for academic productivity and scientific advancement. The position reports directly to the Nesbitt Chair and Head, Department of Medicine, Peter Igarashi, MD.
The successful Division Director candidate will have a philosophy of collaboration and teamwork in interactions within and across Divisions and Departments. He/she will possess an outstanding current academic program, with ongoing research and extramural funding. Candidates will be world class scientific leaders with a proven ability to attract and recruit other research-intensive faculty. He/she will have a proven ability to lead and provide visionary leadership in a complex environment, as well as be recognized as a leader in infectious diseases nationally and internationally.
