The Director of Facility Design directs and manages staff of Design Department in providing quality, professional construction project management services to Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH).
MANAGES AND DIRECTS ASSIGNED STAFF TO CREATE AND MAINTAIN AN OPTIMAL WORK ENVIRONMENT.
Effectively coordinates and administers personnel policies and procedures in conjunction with selection, orientation, training, assignment, staffing, evaluation, disciplining and discharging employees according to BSWH policies, standard practices and in compliance with state and federal labor laws.
Establishes a climate that reduces obstacles and allows and promotes staff to formulate and practice own initiatives and perform at maximum achievement level.
Identifies and provides opportunities for the staff to develop knowledge, skills and abilities needed to contribute to the success of the department.
PLANS, ORGANIZES, COORDINATES AND IMPLEMENTS ALL ASPECTS OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS.
Ensures the quality programming and design of requested construction projects including oversight of drawings, estimates and specifications.
Negotiates effectively with and monitors the work of outside architects, engineers and contractors during all construction projects.
Solicits and receives bids for all construction projects in accordance to established guidelines.
Ensures that design services are provided in a timely, accurate, well-documented and cost-efficient manner and in compliance with established policies, procedures, and practices.
MANAGES THE ACTIVITIES OF THE DESIGN DEPARTMENT TO ENSURE ITS EFFECTIVE OPERATIONS.
Proposes and participates in strategic planning as well as it relates to the department and to the institution as a whole.
Establishes necessary department specific policies and procedures that support and advance department objectives.
Ensures that department policies, procedures and practices comply with Baylor Scott & White policies and procedures.
Ensures professional and ethical behavior of subordinates following established policies as outlined in Baylor Scott & White Guiding Business Principles.
PREPARES, ADMINISTERS, AND MONITORS DEPARTMENT BUDGETS TO MAINTAIN FINANCIAL VIABILITY.
Prepares and recommends effective budgets to cover the projected costs of staffing, equipment and supplies needed to maintain quality and safe patient care.
Manages the day-to-day department operations and cash flow in compliance with the approved budget.
Prepares timely and accurate financial, statistical and tracking reports with clear interpretation as required.
Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering or related field
7 years’ experience
Licensed to practice architecture in Texas and hold a NCARB Certificate preferred.
7-10 years experience in Acute Care Hospital Environment preferred.
Managerial experience in design and construction of medical facilities required.
Membership in American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE) required and ASHE Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) preferred.
