Play a lead role in design and fabrication of key optomechanical sub-assemblies in company product. Responsibilities include the following: design opto-mechanical components, modules, and subassemblies to manipulate laser energy in a medical device; responsible for the complete design process, including generating requirements, specification, conducting design reviews, feasibility studies, risk mitigation activities, and managing cost and scheduling; procurement of prototype parts, manage BOMs, prototype build and testing; work with optical, mechanical and industrial design firms, and lead the integration effort; create design documentation including optical and mechanical drawings with specifications and tolerances, and develop assembly and test procedures; and assist with transfer to contract manufacturing.
Must have BS in optical sciences, optical engineering, or related field and 6 years of experience as an optical engineering, including the following: hands-on experience in optomechanical design; advanced optical design and mechanical design rules; laser beam propagation and fiber optics; mechanical design software, including SolidWorks; optical design software, including Zemax; laser-based systems, specifically laser scanning; working with optical and mechanical engineering teams; and design integration with industrial design, user experience, and ergonomics.
