Organizational Unit Overview Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is a 40-year-old medical school with a strong primary care orientation. The school established a three-fold mission in 1974 that continues to serve as a guiding framework for our overall educational efforts:
To increase the supply of primary care physicians to serve the state
To improve the health status of citizens in eastern North Carolina
To enhance the access of minority and disadvantaged students to a medical education
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation includes physician-directed clinics provide initial and follow-up medical and rehabilitative care for patients. The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at the Brody School of Medicine East Carolina University also provides an excellent training background for residents. The focus as a department coincides with the mission of the Brody School of Medicine.
Job Duties The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina seeks an individual with an outstanding record of clinical operational leadership, scientific and educational achievement, and faculty recruitment and mentoring for the position of Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R).
Reporting to the Dean of the Brody School of Medicine, the Chair will be responsible for high quality medical education and a collegial interactive culture.
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Brody School of Medicine at ECU offers physician-directed clinical services to provide initial and follow-up medical and rehabilitative care for patients.
These services include the evaluation and management of the following disorders: spinal cord injury, non-traumatic and traumatic brain injury, strokes, cardiopulmonary, spasticity, neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders, amputee management with fitting of prosthesis, wound care and hyperbaric medicine and pain management for adults and children.
Additional services include electromyography and nerve Conduction studies, wheel chair evaluations, fluoroscopy and ultrasound guided injections, botulinum toxin injections and baclofen pump management.
In addition, the department has a robust residency program. The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at the Brody School of Medicine East Carolina University provides an excellent training background and knowledge to advance resident physician education Including both inpatient and outpatient resident training.
The Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) will lead and manage the department to ensure continued achievement of the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities.
Specifically, the Chair will continue to develop the clinical enterprise, pursue new business opportunities and partnerships, recruit and retain faculty/staff, heighten scholarly activity and enhance medical student and resident education.
The Chair will communicate and collaborate with key clinical and administrative leaders to ensure strategies and activities of the Department are aligned with the mission and goals of the Brody School of Medicine and East Carolina University.
Medical degree (MD or DO) from an appropriately accredited institution
Active certification by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Five years of clinical experience in the area of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Academic experience consistent with eligibility for full Professor with tenure
Demonstrated success in fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability
Demonstrated success as an academic and administrative leader
Experience collaborating with key senior clinical and administrative leaders
Experience as an active participant in specialty organizations/committees at the regional and national levels
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation NC medical license or eligibility for a NC medical license
