Vanderbilt University Medical Center invites applications and nominations for the position of Director, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.
The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is ranked among the top cardiology and cardiac surgery programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report. The Division’s cardiology specialists are national leaders in innovative treatments and Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute is Tennessee’s leading provider of cardiology, cardiac surgery, and vascular services. There are over 150 faculty members and 62 fellows in the Division. The Division has a diverse research portfolio currently supported by more than $13 million of annual NIH funding.
The Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine will be a highly energetic, collaborative, and creative physician-scientist with a strong track record of program building and innovation. The Director will be viewed as a strong advocate for balancing the academic, educational, and clinical missions and be a willing collaborator with colleagues throughout VUMC. The new Director will work in partnership with the Executive Medical Director of the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute, the cardiology, cardiac surgery, and vascular medicine service line of VUMC, to enhance multidisciplinary programs, promote the clinical, educational, and research initiatives of VUMC, and to coordinate resources.
Building upon existing strengths and leveraging the assets of VUMC, the Division Director will be expected to continue to enhance the research portfolio of the Division, particularly in the areas of basic and translational science. The new Director will also grow the Division with the recruitment, retention, and development of physicians, physician-scientists, scientists, staff, and trainees. The Director will be a transparent and transformative servant leader, dedicated to relationship building and promoting the mission of VUMC.
