Vertex Physician Investigator

Job Description The Vertex Physician Investigator Program is a unique two-year, immersive, rotation-based, biotech training program for exceptional early career physician scientists. The program will provide participants with a broad understanding of the drug development process and enable future leadership opportunities. Program participants will receive didactic training and experiential learning about the science and medicine of drug discovery.
This program intends to attract outstanding early-career physician scientists with a proven track record of scientific and creative accomplishments in their field. Physician Investigators come to Vertex for a two-year experience in which they complete four customized rotations. They are embedded within project teams and gain hands-on experience with real-world R&D problems. The program is directed by our Head of Pipeline Development and will be sponsored by our Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Medical Officer and overseen by a Steering Committee of Vertex Senior Leaders.
Program Details: Full-time, benefitted position Initial two-year rotation period with four (4) six-month rotations through Research and Development plus two other Vertex functions of participant’s choice Peer to Peer learning with senior mentorship provided A guided career path throughout the two-year rotation period with an eye towards final placement

This program aims to start by September 2020 with placement on a Vertex team upon completion of the program.

Minimum Qualifications: · Candidate must have earned an MD or MD/PhD and completed medical residency · ≤5yrs from post-medical residency/fellowship · Demonstrated evidence of scientific impact (e.g. through significant peer-reviewed publications, recognition, or awards) · Demonstrated evidence of creative thinking · Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. as we are unable to sponsor applicants for work visas for this program.
Preferred Qualifications: · Outstanding communication ability · Strong team player · Strong leadership skills with evidence of driving to results · Interest in the intersection of medicine and drug discovery research
