Director of Neonatal Services
Nationwide Children's Hospital
The Director contributes to the strategic development and professional enrichment of patient care staff within the division of Neonatal Services, both at host hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) and/or Newborn Special Care Units (NSCU). Incorporates a professional nursing model practice that achieves clinical excellence, contributes to the educational and academic recognition of nursing professionals, and fosters nursing research. Collaborates with all members of the patient care team to assure the provision of high quality patient care using the family-centered care model. Assures seamless communication between nursing functions within the division and contributes to building an interdisciplinary team of professional nurses. Collaborates with the division’s leadership team to assure achievement of financial goals and effective program development. Lead for host hospital major projects. 1. Directly oversees various levels of patient care services staff including but not limited to staff nurses, nurse clinicians, nurse practitioners, allied health professionals and ancillary support staff. 2. Contributes to the planning, development and implementation of the division’s strategic plan. Actively engages in behaviors that support the development of a patient focused service line. 3. Lead for engaging with external contracts and host hospitals. 4. Lead for host hospital major projects – IT, construction, EPIC implementation, and others that arise. 5. Collaborates with host hospital Medical Directors and Program Managers to set strategies for unit operations. 6. Participates and is a member of the Neonatal Services Leadership Team. 7. Recruits, orients, evaluates, educates and as necessary, disciplines and/or terminates subordinate staff. 8. Develops the annual operational and capital budget in collaboration with each host hospital NICU or NSCN Program Manager. 9. Develops policies/procedures based on current research/literature to ensure consistent care of the neonatal patient. 10. Oversees quality improvement initiatives with Program Managers that support the highest level of patient care, family/customer satisfaction, and staff satisfaction. 11. Engage Quality Improvement Coordinator and Quality Team to achieve national standards for outcomes performance and quality measures. 12. Ensures staff utilize evidence based practice through clinical inquiry and application to nursing practice. 13. Develops operational plans and strategies to ensure that all aims of the safety program are obtained and sustained, as well as ensure Magnet requirements are consistently met on an ongoing basis. 14. Develops a culture of shared governance amongst the patient care team ensures employee satisfaction and needs are consistently addressed in a timely manner. 15. Establishes mechanisms for staff enrichment and empowerment through shared governance. 16. Oversees the monitoring of regulatory compliance in collaboration with other program staff. 17. Participates in local, state and national professional neonatal meetings, and influences all nurses within the division to present and publish evidence-based practice from their experiences at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. 18. Represents the division as a member of the hospital’s patient care leadership team and assumes the responsibility of nursing administrator on-call duties.

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. 2. Master’s Degree prepared, with 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in Health Care Management, preferably with some background in Neonatal Intensive Care. 3. Membership in professional nursing organizations desirable. 4. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, parents, external contacts, and all levels of hospital staff and to maintain confidentiality of information. 5; Communication and leadership skills to plan, organize, and direct specialty programs and professional staff. 6. Skill in promoting multidisciplinary collaboration; ability to act as a facilitator and change agent required Promotes teamwork by building a team environment and fostering cross functional collaboration. MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to see, hear, stand, walk, speak, read and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation, and care for oneself with little or no difficulty.
