Penn State College of Medicine (PSCOM) is conducting a national search and seeks an accomplished academic physician executive to assume the leadership of the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at an extraordinary time in the history of medicine. PSCOM and Penn State Health are committed to excellence in the academic and clinical missions and will look to the leadership of the new Chair of PM&R to enrich the department with a renewed vision to accelerate growth and expansion.
PSCOM and Penn State Health’s primary partner for rehabilitative care, Select Medical, are strategically positioned to build on their ongoing partnership. The Chair of PM&R is a key leadership role for both committed partner organizations who look to the next Chair to establish a joint center of excellence in rehabilitative services and patient care. Opportunities are ripe to enrich the clinical and educational missions, expand community outreach, and develop research and scholarly activity. The Chair will work with PSCOM, Penn State Health and Select Medical leadership to extend exemplary rehabilitative services throughout the region, linked to exceptional research and educational activities.
The next Chair will be a nationally recognized academic physiatrist, deeply committed to the academic missions of the department and who relishes the entrepreneurial challenge to succeed in a highly competitive healthcare environment. The next Chair will exhibit the qualities required to be a successful leader in a complex, matrixed, professional community, including the ability to work collaboratively across the various locations and organizational units of PSCOM/Penn State Health and Select Medical.
In addition, they will also have demonstrated an ability to effectively promote an academic department with community providers and leaders, donors, and local benefactors. The Chair will mentor, lead, and inspire the department’s faculty and is expected to recruit new clinicians, educators and researchers. Reporting to the Dean of the PSCOM, the Chair of PM&R will be viewed by all stakeholders as a strong advocate for balancing the academic, and clinical missions of PSCOM. The ideal candidate will have the demonstrated capabilities to enhance quality patient-centered care delivery to ensure continued service excellence and competitiveness in the service area, the region, and beyond.
Qualified candidates will hold a medical degree (MD or DO) or equivalent degree(s) and should qualify for rank of Professor or Associate Professor at the Penn State College of Medicine. Board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) required and applicants must be or should be eligible for licensure in the State of Pennsylvania. The preferred candidate will have five or more years of experience as a strategic leader within a dynamic academic health system as well as a medical school. The successful candidate will be an advocate for the faculty, students, and staff, and be committed to mentoring and training the next generation of physiatrists.
