The Organization:
Heart of Florida Health Center (HFHC), formerly known as Community Health Services, became a Federally- Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in March 2009 with the addition of dental and behavioral health services. For over 18 years, Munroe Regional Medical Center (MRMC) and Ocala Regional Medical Center (ORMC) generously provided the financial support that made healthcare available through the CHS clinic. In 2007, the Marion County Commissioners and the Florida Department of Health Marion County also began providing funding assistance to expand the range of services offered.
Today, Heart of Florida Health Center provides healthcare to 30,000 patients with over 70,000 visits annually, nine clinic sites, and has an operating budget of $30M. Services include Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatric Medicine, Maternity, Gynecology, Adult & Pediatric Dentistry, Pharmacy, Behavioral Health, Case Management, and Telehealth. HFHC also provides all healthcare operations for Marion County Jail and has a Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency program through HCA Florida Ocala Hospital (FKA Ocala Regional Medical Center).
The Location:
Tucked into north central Florida in a region known as "horse country," Ocala offers visitors winding community pathways lined with oak trees and dangling trellises of Spanish moss, and the opportunity to explore miles of untainted nature. If the prospect of canoeing down a crystal clear stream amid the largest sand pine forest in the world sounds appealing, Ocala and surrounding Marion County are more than worth your time. Ocala and the region's freshwater streams, rolling hills and clean air remain unspoiled and have been used for Hollywood movies. Nearby Ocala is Silver Springs, a national landmark and nature theme park on 350 acres. Silver Springs is Florida's "original attraction."
