Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida, seeks an exemplary leader to serve as Chief, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the Haley Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders.
The Organization:
Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children (OHAPH) has 156 beds. Caring for its patients are more than 150 pediatric subspecialty physicians and 65 advanced practice professionals in these specialties: primary care pediatrics, adolescent medicine, complex and transition care, neonatal intensive care, critical care, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, behavioral health and development, endocrinology and diabetes, feeding difficulties center, nephrology, urology, hematology/oncology and neuro-oncology, infectious diseases and immunology, pediatric surgery, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, pulmonology and sleep medicine, genetics, developmental pediatrics, neurology, emergency medicine, palliative care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, radiology, rheumatology, sports medicine, otolaryngology, anesthesiology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery and craniomaxillofacial surgery.
Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital also has a pediatric residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) comprised of 42 pediatric residents. In the summer of 2024, the pediatric residency program will grow with 16 new residents starting. The program is built upon the strengths of Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital and a passion to develop the next generation of pediatric physicians. The hospital also has five pediatric fellowship programs in pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric craniomaxillofacial surgery, pediatric orthopedic surgery, and pediatric critical care.
Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital consistently has been recognized as a national leader in pediatric care. Since 2008, these touchpoints of excellence have placed Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital as a Best Children’s Hospital in the United States. For fourteen consecutive years, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital on its Best Children’s Hospitals list in multiple pediatric specialties. It is the only hospital in Orlando to be recognized so consistently.
The Opportunity:
The new Division Chief will be one of seven physician leaders that comprise the Children’s Physician Cabinet representing three multi-specialty pediatric divisions (Surgical, Medical, Hospital Based) and four Pediatric Institutes (Neuroscience, Children’s Heart Center, GI, and Hematology/Oncology).
The new Division Chief will be expected to manage resources and foster an atmosphere conducive to faculty development, education, and clinical productivity and to provide outstanding clinical care for patients we serve. The Division Chief will also be responsible for programmatic growth within the division as well as building the regional and national reputation of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology program.
The new Division Chief will apply a strong and proven commitment to excellence in care delivery, research, education, and advocacy. With responsibility for all clinical, educational, research, and operational functioning within the Division, the Division Chief will oversee budgeting, staff management, patient services, and other functions relevant to effective division management. In this role, the Division Chief will have the opportunity to lead and impact the Division, and the hospital's performance.
The Department:
The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital (OHAPH) for Children has six physicians, eight Advanced Practitioners, and over 55 Registered Nurses. The Division sees approximately 10,000 patient visits annually in the practice setting. The providers see patients at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and two satellite clinics located west of Orlando in Summerport and northeast in Spring Lake. There is an opportunity to expand the presence of the division within other OHAPH satellite clinics in the future. Specific programs include Neuro-Oncology, Hemophilia, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy, Sickle Cell, Oncofertility, and Cancer Survivorship (long-term follow-up program).
The Hematology/Oncology Service Line includes the following distinct subspecialties:
- Bone Marrow Transplant
- Hematology/Bleeding Disorders
- Neuro-Oncology
- Leukemia & Lymphoma
- Solid Tumor
The Division has eight exam rooms and two procedure rooms in clinic and 11 areas (8 bays and three private rooms) for infusion. There are also 20 inpatient beds dedicated to pediatric hematology/oncology and two inpatient beds dedicated to the Bone Marrow Transplant Program.
The Division of Hematology/Oncology at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children has many strengths including the following:
- A designated Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC).
- Division has a well-established Pediatric Neuro-Oncology team and sees approximately 60 new brain tumor patients annually. These patients are supported by a prominent pediatric neurosurgeon.
- The Division of Hematology/Oncology has a large Sickle Cell patient population with approximately 550 patients.
- Division members are involved in multiple Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials.
- The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology team remains highly active in research. The research team supporting Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children (OHAPH) and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies (OHWPH) includes one director, one supervisor, five research coordinators, two regulatory coordinators, and two data coordinators.
The Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will be a visionary and strategic leader. The candidate will have a proven record as a problem solver and have the ability to implement innovative solutions to contemporary challenges. The new Division Chief will have demonstrated leadership in clinical care, development of research, and/or administration and strong clinical expertise, within the field of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
Education/Certifications
- MD or MD/PhD with a track record of professional leadership roles in the field of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
- Board Certification and fellowship training in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
- Must be eligible for licensure in the State of Florida.
The Region:
