Genetic Counselor
The genetic counselor will serve the needs of individuals and families in the community affected by or at risk for cancer by providing genetic counseling and assisting them in obtaining appropriate medical care. The Genetic Counselor is also an important educational resource for the community and other healthcare providers.This is a professional level position working independently within the cancer team including two cancer genetic counselors and a medical geneticist. The Genetic Counselor obtains and interprets detailed family histories, analyzes inheritance patterns, provides personalized risk assessment, reviews available family planning and testing options, and coordinates appropriate referrals to healthcare providers and/or community and state support services.
