Job Summary

Leads the development of organization's efforts to educate future genetic counselors with a focus on precision health. The program goal is to leverage the system's Genomic Sequencing and Counseling Program to educate future genetic counselors. Geisinger is providing precision healthcare to our community today through the first large-scale, health system based clinical community program in the world and is empowering patients with potentially preventable conditions to better manage or even prevent illness. We are transforming the practice of healthcare from a system that takes care of sick people to a system that helps prevent people from becoming sick. Geisinger is evolving from treating people in a one-size-fits-all way to treating people as individuals, taking into account their unique behavioral, environmental, social and genomic characteristics.

Job Duties

This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing a masters-level genetic counseling training program that meets accreditation requirements of the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling. Program development may include design, coordination, administration, planning, and development of the Program, including curriculum, clinical and research training and rotations, such as:

• Leading Geisinger discussion on the education needs of future genetic counselors
• Creating and managing partnerships with academic, medical, and commercial institutions
• Working with the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling and the American Board of Genetic Counseling to ensure educational programs meet accreditation requirements
• Developing and maintaining budgets for the program
• Determining faculty needs and recruiting faculty
• Developing a timeline and plan to achieve New Program status and accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling
• Teach as necessary in the Program

Position Details

Required Education and Experience:

• Master's degree (MS) in human genetic or genetic counseling
• Board-certification in genetic counseling from the American Board of Genetic counseling or the American Board of Medical Genetics
• Genetic counseling state licensure in current clinical practice state(s) if applicable
• Pennsylvania state genetic counseling licensure within 2 months of hire date
• Five (5) years clinical experience as board-certified / licensed genetic counselor
• Six (6) credit hours as post-secondary education course instructor
• Provided fieldwork supervision for five (5) or more genetic counseling graduate students for a minimum of 500 total contact hours within the last ten (10) years
• Ten (10) hours of training / coursework in curriculum design, assessment, evaluation or educational andragogy, within the past 10 years
• Training in student supervision as provided by an accredited genetic counseling training program
• Adequate CEU credits as required by the American Board of Genetic Counseling for re-certification

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Ten (10) years clinical or research experience as board-certified / licensed genetic counselor
• Twelve (12) credit hours as post-secondary education course instructor
• Five years educational, clinical or research program leadership
• Two (2) or more years as Assistant or Program Director for an accredited genetic counseling training program
• More than ten hours of training / coursework in curriculum design, assessment, evaluation or educational andragogy
