Job Summary:
The Director of Ambulatory Pharmacy Operations provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership for the organization’s ambulatory pharmacy portfolio, including but not limited to retail pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, mailâ??order services, and clinicâ??based dispensing/support services. This role ensures highâ??quality patient care, operational excellence, regulatory and accreditation compliance, and sustainable financial performance across all ambulatory pharmacy sites.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute strategic plans for ambulatory, retail, and specialty pharmacy services aligned with organizational goals.
- Lead growth initiatives, including new pharmacy locations, expanded specialty services, and innovative clinical programs.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and payer dynamics to inform program evolution.
- Drive technology enhancement initiatives (EPIC Willow, specialty pharmacy platforms, automation tools, data analytics).
- Provide executive oversight of daily operations across all ambulatory locations including but not limited to retail and specialty pharmacy lines of business, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant workflows.
- Optimize medication access processes, including prior authorization, appeals, financial assistance, and refill coordination.
- Ensure effective integration with clinic providers, care teams, and access centers to support smooth patient care transitions.
- Oversee inventory management, purchasing optimization, wholesaler relationships, and contract pharmacy compliance.
- Lead and mentor pharmacy managers, supervisors, pharmacists, and technicians.
- Build a strong leadership pipeline and culture of accountability, excellence, and service.
- Support workforce planning, competency development, performance management, and staff engagement initiatives
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
- 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience in ambulatory, retail, or specialty pharmacy operations.
- Strong understanding of pharmacy regulations, accreditation standards, and operational workflows.
- Proven ability to lead large teams and complex pharmacy operations.
- Experience with EPIC Willow, pharmacy software platforms, and medication access workflows.
Education: PharmD required; advanced degree (MS, MHA, MBA, or MPH) preferred..
Licenses / Certifications: Current NYS pharmacist license required, or eligible to obtain within 90 days of hire.
