The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine (JCESOM) at Marshall University, in partnership with Marshall Health Network (MHN), seeks an accomplished and visionary cardiothoracic (CT) surgeon to lead as the inaugural Chair of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at JCESOM.
As the academic lead for cardiothoracic surgery, the Chair will be responsible for establishing the strategic direction of education, faculty development, research, and scholarly activity. They will build the department’s academic framework and elevate the profile of cardiothoracic surgery at the School of Medicine. In partnership with MHN, this inaugural role will also unify the clinical governance of cardiac, vascular and thoracic services across a multi-hospital academic health system serving central Appalachia.
As a clinical leader at MHN, this role will focus on advancing high-quality, patient-centered care; driving program growth and innovation; and fostering multidisciplinary collaboration across all MHN facilities. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping the future of cardiothoracic care, education and discovery— strengthening access to advanced cardiovascular and thoracic services for the communities Marshall Health Network serves.

Qualifications:
Doctor of Medicine (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution
Eligibility for medical licensure in West Virginia
Board certified and fellowship-trained in cardiothoracic surgery
Distinguished record of clinical excellence, programmatic leadership and academic contribution
Demonstrated success in leadership roles, including faculty and student mentorship, strategic
planning and organizational development
Experience with fiscal management, academic program oversight and a record of faculty
recruitment and retention
Strong interpersonal, communication and team-building skills
